REDD+ Results-Based Funding Achieved
Indonesia announced it secured USD 499.8 million in results-based payments for verified emission reductions under the REDD+ program. Over USD 340 million has already been disbursed – including USD 103.8 million through the Green Climate Fund via UNDP. The Environment and Forestry Ministry highlighted this as a landmark in mitigation (forestry-sector emissions cuts) and climate finance, demonstrating Indonesia’s leadership in forest conservation and its commitment to the FOLU Net Sink 2030 target.

EU Eases Deforestation Law Deadlines
The European Commission proposed amendments to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), extending timelines for small enterprises while keeping the law’s start date at end of 2025. The law – which bars imports like palm oil, beef, and wood linked to deforestation – faced pushback from Indonesia and others concerned about export impacts. The updated proposal grants a 6-month enforcement grace period for large firms and gives micro and small companies until end of 2026 to comply, addressing trade partner concerns yet maintaining the EU’s forest protection goals (relevant to biodiversity and mitigation).

NDC 2035 Emission Target Update, Peak by 2030
On 31 October, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq announced Indonesia’s Second NDC (submitted ahead of COP 30). The updated NDC advances the emissions peak to 2030 and introduces two lowcarbon scenarios projecting emissions reductions of 8–17.5 % by 2035. It emphasises absolute emissions limits, covers additional gases (e.g. HFCs) and sets longterm targets for renewable energy and land restoration.

National Adaptation Plan Finalized
The Indonesian government finalized its first National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for submission at COP30 in Brazil, making Indonesia one of 69 countries formalizing such a plan. Developed in about 6 months through inclusive consultations (involving ministries, local authorities, CSOs, youth, academia and vulnerable groups), the NAP outlines strategies to strengthen climate resilience across communities and ecosystems. Officials note that Indonesia will leverage the NAP to mobilize resources for climate adaptation efforts in bolstering climate resilience.

Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF)
At the Belém Leaders’ Summit ahead of COP30, Indonesia’s Special Envoy for Climate Hashim Djojohadikusumo pledged support for Brazil’s Tropical Forest Forever Facility. The TFFF is a new $125 billion global fund to help tropical countries protect and restore forests; Indonesia committed to match Brazil’s $1 billion contribution into the fund. Other leaders including Norway (promising $3 billion) and France have welcomed the initiative. This high-level collaboration on forest conservation and finance aligns with IKI themes of mitigation (reducing deforestation emissions) and climate finance, positioning Indonesia as a key player in mobilizing funding for biodiversity protection.

Indonesia–UK Strengthen Climate & Biodiversity Cooperation
Indonesia and the United Kingdom expanded their strategic partnership in climate and sustainability by signing new agreements on the sidelines of the COP30 preparatory summit in Belém. Environment Minister Nurofiq and the UK’s Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband inked an MoU to deepen cooperation on mitigation (emissions reduction), adaptation, carbon market development, and low-carbon development initiatives. Additionally, a Letter of Intent with The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales was signed to jointly combat illegal wildlife trade and enhance biodiversity protection through law enforcement and community engagement. These agreements involve government agencies and non-state partners, underlining a collaborative approach to climate action and nature conservation in line with IKI Indonesia’s focus areas.
