Community-based Agroforestry Enterprises for Sustainable and Collective Land Use

The Sengkarang watershed has been affected by climate change. Rising temperatures, changes in rainfall patterns, and deteriorated ecosystems create challenges for farmers, which increases poverty in rural areas. This project makes forest village communities in the area more resilient to the effects of climate change by creating community-based agroforestry businesses. The project works with 200 farmers to form a cooperative that manages land sustainably. They plan to make 40 hectares of land available and increase farmers’ income by 20 per cent. The project also provides training and networking opportunities to help the cooperative connect with other businesses in the village. Local governments and other public stakeholders also support the project to ensure its success in the long term.

Operationalising the Landscape Approach for Biodiversity and Benefits: Policy, Practice and People

To operationalize the landscape approach, the project works with multiple stakeholders in the pilot landscapes to apply the ten principles. It includes jointly developing and promoting strategies, methods and tools to better coordinate and integrate development and conservation activities by the different stakeholders (including government, local communities, the private sector).

Support Area : Biodiversity
Duration : 01.06.2018 – 31.05.2023, extended to 31.08.2025

Harnessing the Potential of Trees on Farms for Meeting National and Global Biodiversity Targets

Tree stocks on agricultural land perform a key function in terms of interconnecting ecosystems and maintaining soil and agrobiodiversity. However, the significance of these ‘trees on farms’ (TonF) has not been adequately incorporated into partner country NBSAPs.

Supporting Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure Planning in Indonesia through SIPA Collaboration

The Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA), led by the OECD, supported Indonesia in strengthening how infrastructure decisions are planned and assessed. Working with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and partners including the International Institute for Sustainable Development, the United Nations Development Programme and the World Wide Fund for Nature, SIPA provided practical analysis, tools and dialogue aligned with existing national planning processes. Its activities ranged from strategic foresight workshops and ecosystem services mapping to project-level sustainability assessments and sector-focused work on refuse-derived fuel and industrial decarbonisation. Taken together, these efforts helped shape medium-term planning discussions and supported more resilient, sustainable infrastructure decisions across Indonesia.
