Report: Study on Indonesian Energy Transition Financing Framework and Financial Risk Management
To transition is to build. To translate noble ambitions for a greener future into material reality, it is necessary to secure the means of power generation and transmission. Variable renewable energy sources face risks that more mature generation chains have long adapted to; failing to acknowledge and mitigate these risks delays RE projects and the transition in general.
This report offers a concise overview of financing and de-risking instruments, highlights common challenges facing renewable energy projects in Indonesia, and explores additional pathways for accelerating shifts in the national energy mix. It also maps a range of potential financing sources, outlines the steps needed to unlock them, and presents recommendations for aligning national development planning documents with existing finance assessment pipelines.

#KupasBisnis Video Series, in collaboration with the Indonesian Employers’ Association
As part of the #KupasBisnis, a spin-off of our original #Business series, GIZ collaborated with APINDO to highlight the ways in which MSMEs and other private sector actors can participate in Indonesia’s clean energy transition, primarily by developing strong business cases and engaging extensively with financial institutions. The series cited several existing cases, such as the solar-powered ice maker used by fishermen, which serves the dual purpose of cutting costs and supporting sustainable operations. GIZ played a key role in this by providing training, technical assistance, and enhanced access to finance, thereby empowering private sector participation in clean energy initiatives.
