Jakarta, Indonesia, 26 September 2025. The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project took center stage at the Refrigeration & Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Indonesia Expo 2025, driving momentum for greener and more efficient buildings through a series of high-level workshops and trainings on energy efficiency, sustainable cooling, building emission assessment tool, and green public procurement.

Co-hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) and the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), and organized in partnership with ASHRAE Indonesia Chapter, ACE, GGGI, and HEAT International, the program underscored Indonesia’s strong commitment to cutting emissions from its building sector. —Currently, the building sector in Indonesia contributes 33% of national greenhouse gas emissions, with cooling demand as the primary contributor. 

Government leaders emphasized the urgency of the shift. “The building sector is one of Indonesia’s largest contributors to emissions. The Government is promoting stakeholder engagement and green building certification to accelerate reductions,” said Ir. Diana Kusumastuti, Vice Minister of Public Works. Prof. Dr. Eng. Eniya Listiani Dewi of MEMR added that energy efficiency could cut national emissions by up to 37% while lowering household energy bills.

Echoing this, Rowan Fraser, GGGI Country Representative for Indonesia, stressed: “Our efforts focus on bolstering energy efficiency in the building sector through innovative approaches to drive down emissions.”

The ALCBT project will channel outcomes from these dialogues into policy recommendations, supporting Indonesia’s low-carbon building transition and long-term decarbonization goals.
