Climate Business Field School (CBFS) is an educational platform for rural youth farmers that promotes climate-smart, net-zero agricultural practices with a strong business orientation.

Designed under the RYCAM project, CBFS equips young people with practical knowledge of sustainable farming while strengthening agribusiness skills that align with current youth interests and market demands. The program was implemented in two locations, engaging 19 young farmers in Toraja and 24 young farmers in Pangandaran District. Through a combination of field-based learning and business development training, participants gain hands-on experience in climate-friendly agriculture that is both environmentally responsible and economically viable.

CBFS introduces a different way of looking at agriculture, presenting farming not as a fallback, but as a profitable, innovative, and future-oriented pursuit. The approach is intended to draw more young people into the sector and to slow rural-to-urban migration, a pattern often shaped by the belief that farming offers little security or promise. That belief has long been reinforced by limited access to business oriented agricultural education, a gap CBFS sets out to confront.

While agriculture remains a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, a growing youth population offers a powerful opportunity for change. At the conclusion of the CBFS curriculum, participants are encouraged to take the next step by joining the Youth Climate Friendly Competition, submitting business proposals for climate friendly agribusiness ventures. Winning groups receive a grant of IDR 15,000,000 to put their ideas into practice.
