On September 16, 2025, in Jakarta, the CASE Project, together with the GETI project of IESR, co-hosted a discussion on Planning and Financing Strategies to Support the Achievement of Renewable Electricity Infrastructure in Eastern Indonesia. Through a series of panel discussions, participants examined the challenges, needs, opportunities, funding strategies, and implementation mechanisms shaping renewable energy development in the region. The forum brought together representatives from government institutions—both energy and non-energy—as well as actors from the private sector.

From the discussion, it was found that in the Eastern region, hydro energy will be focused on Maluku and Papua, and solar energy will be developed in several locations. The energy mix in East Nusa Tenggara is currently still dominated by petroleum. Therefore, the energy policy direction in the 2025-2029 RPJMD needs to focus on renewable energy development.

Implementation challenges remain substantial, ranging from uneven electricity consumption and limited incentive regulations to logistical constraints and a persistent mismatch between renewable energy potential and demand centres. Recommended approaches include project bundling strategies and cross-sector collaboration, as well as the development and financing of transmission infrastructure.

More than a technical exchange, the dialogue also carried a message outward. By addressing the structural challenges discussed, CASE Indonesia and its partners are mainstreaming the narrative that the transition to clean energy is equitable, aligning relevant financing mechanisms with the specific logistical realities of these regions, showing that the green transition is a nationwide commitment, reaching the furthest corners of the archipelago, and leaving no region behind.
