On 28–29 August 2025, PT Restorasi Ekosistem Indonesia (REKI), in collaboration with BKSDA Jambi, conducted a wildlife release in Hutan Harapan, Batanghari District, Jambi. A total of 23 animals were returned to nature, comprising 2 sun bears (Helarctos malayanus), 3 otters (Lutrinae), 4 myna birds (Gracula religiosa), and 14 reticulated pythons (Malayopython reticulatus). These species were released across three habitat-specific sites within the forest.
“This activity is part of efforts to return rescued animals to their natural environment so they can breed and restore ecosystem balance,” said Agung Nugroho, Head of BKSDA Jambi. He emphasized that Hutan Harapan, managed under an ecosystem restoration scheme, offers ideal conditions for wildlife release and contributes to national biodiversity enrichment.
Before the release, all animals underwent medical examinations and observation, followed by coordinated post-release monitoring using camera traps, direct field checks, and habitat surveys. Drh. Indra Exploitasia Semiawan from the Ministry of Forestry (Indonesia) commended REKI’s contribution to wildlife conservation.
With its rich habitats and strong monitoring capacity, Hutan Harapan continues to be a safe haven for Sumatran wildlife showing that collaboration can truly give nature another chance to heal and flourish.
