On June 3, 2025, the Ministry of Forestry hosted the Conservation Gala Night in Jakarta, bringing together government representatives, private sector leaders, philanthropic organizations, and environmental stakeholders to strengthen collaboration in preserving Indonesia’s rich biodiversity. A significant highlight of the evening was the official launch of IBioFund – Indonesia Biodiversity Fund, a pioneering blended finance mechanism initiated by the Ministry of Forestry and managed by the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) under the Ministry of Finance.
IBioFund is designed to attract and mobilize funding from public, private, and international sources to support long-term conservation programs across the archipelago. It aims to bridge the critical financing gap by enabling investments in non-state budget (non-APBN) and non-tax revenue (non-PNBP).
Indonesia already has a strong foundation of biodiversity policies. The Indonesia Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) 2025-2045 guides national efforts for conservation, sustainable use, and equitable benefit-sharing. Additionally, the government has established Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) and strengthened the Social Forestry Program, empowering local communities and women to manage forest ecosystems sustainably.
The launch of IBioFund complements these policies by offering a sustainable financing framework, formalized through Minister of Forestry Decree No. 16 of 2025 on the Investment Framework for Sustainable Biodiversity Conservation Management and supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) through the GIZ Green Economy Transformation 4.0 project, along with its partners from GIZ Indonesia’s Climate and Biodiversity project. The IBioFund as a biodiversity window marks a new chapter in Indonesia’s commitment to climate resilience and biodiversity protection.
With the establishment of IBioFund, Indonesia opens a new window of opportunity for biodiversity, marking a significant step toward sustainable financing for conservation efforts nationwide.
