Jakarta, Indonesia, April 17, 2025 – In support of Indonesia’s climate and development agenda, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Indonesia organized a National Seminar titled “Towards Net-Zero Commercial Buildings: Energy Efficiency and Green Building Integration.” Held under the Asia Low-Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project, the event supported Indonesia’s commitment to achieving Net-Zero Emissions by 2060 by promoting low-carbon building practices through emission assessment tools, capacity building, regulatory support, and financing facilitation.

Representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources emphasized the urgency of decarbonizing the building sector, one of the country’s largest emitters.

“The building sector is a serious concern for emission reduction, and stakeholder capacity-building remains essential,” said Dewi Chomistriana, Director General of Human Settlements.

The seminar highlighted practical solutions such as climate-responsive design, energy-efficient systems, and embodied carbon tracking. The Jakarta Human Settlements, Spatial Planning, and Land Affairs Agency reported that 165 buildings have committed to a 10% emission reduction and encouraged further participation in Green Building Certification.

Ambolas Manalu, GGGI Senior Associate for Energy Efficiency, underscored the need to calculate embodied carbon—from construction processes to material choices—as a key consideration for more effective policymaking.

Through this initiative and continued collaboration with government and industry stakeholders, GGGI remains committed to supporting Indonesia’s low-carbon transition and the development of sustainable, climate-resilient cities.
