From October 2024 to February 2025, SETI project hosted a webinar series that focused on sustainable built environment energy solutions.  The objectives of the event are as follow:  

• To develop the capacity of the city governments in Indonesia to support the built environment sector’s transition to be more sustainable. 

• To discuss the applicable regulations and targets in implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy  

• To show the benefits of implementing energy efficiency (EE) measures and renewable energy (RE) technologies in buildings. 

• To introduce and discuss challenges of implementing EE and RE and suggest solutions in the building sector. 

The webinar brought the regulators and experts to share their views and expertise and strategies for reducing emissions. The first session, which took place in October 2024, demonstrated how reducing costs and carbon footprints through energy efficiency and renewable energy integration in buildings can be achieved. The next webinar was held in December, highlighting the green building implementation as a strategy that can be adopted by city governments to reduce its carbon footprint. In that event, Government of Bandung shared their story in implementing green building measures as an inspiration for the other cities in Indonesia to adopt green building implementation. In February 2025, the last session addressed sustainable urban energy planning, stressing the importance of data-driven policies and cross-sector collaboration to accelerate change.  The webinar series gained a lot of attention; 344 participants, ranging from city government officials to private stakeholders had attended the webinar. 

Shabrina Nareswara, a participant from the Surabaya City Government, stated that her favourite session of the webinar was the session on the Strategy and Implementation of Green Building Certification in Jakarta, and the Implementation of the Green Building Concept in Bandung City. These topics hit close to home, as they reflect many of the same challenges faced in Surabaya. She noted that the insights from the webinar could play a key role in advancing green building initiatives across Indonesia by highlighting gaps that cities need to address. 

Webinar participants also voice interest in diving deeper into the topic through a dedicated workshop on green building assessments and certification procedures. Additionally, they also suggested exploring the connection between green buildings and carbon markets, a promising area that could unlock new opportunities for sustainable urban development.
