Bali, one of Indonesia’s most progressive provinces on climate change, has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2045. WRI Indonesia, in collaboration with the Bali NZE Coalition Secretariat, is currently supporting the development of the province’s roadmap to achieve NZE by 2045.   

On Wednesday, 19 February 2025, WRI Indonesia held a focus group discussion with various representatives from Bali provincial government agencies to discuss Bali’s business-as-usual emissions trajectory and to collect the upcoming 5-year climate policy target. Bali Regional Development Planning Agency, representatives from various sectors of the provincial government, including FOLU, energy, agriculture, waste and transport, as well as regional low carbon development academics and partners joined the discussions and delivered their inputs towards the baseline model developed by WRI Indonesia. 

The multi-sectoral FGD will be the basis for producing the updated system dynamics modelling and officiliazed the model baseline, as a tool to enhance the effort to develop the Medium-Term Regional Development Plan (RPJMD) 2025 – 2029 climate-related targets for Bali Province. WRI Indonesia continues to deliver its technical expertise to support the provincial government willingness to achieve NZE 2045, as reflected through the discussions with political leaders in Bali to move forward with the initiatives.
